The Shark in Westhampton

Shark in Westhampton

A seven foot Mako shark washed up on the beach right in front of where were sitting today. No one knew how it died but, needless to say, it drew the crowds. I’ve never seen a shark this close - a once in a lifetime experience (hopefully). Street photography can happen anywhere there are people.

On the Subway After a Long Day

Tired Woman and Man on Subway After a Long Day, NYC

I love capturing moments on the subway when people aren’t buried in their phones. This woman next to me was clearly tired but not sleeping. I love how there was a man in the background also in a state of near sleep. It twas in the late afternoon and I can only guess it was a long day for both.

Richard Avedon Exhibit: Avedon 100

Richard Avedon Exhibit Avedon 100

Last week, I went to an exhibit featuring the work of legendary American portrait and fashion photographer Richard Avedon. The exhibit was called Avedon 100 and contained photographs selected by more than 150 people—including prominent artists, designers, musicians, writers, curators, and fashion world representatives. Here are iPhone shots I took at the exhibit. The photographs were all stunning with most of them printed very large. I left the exhibit both humbled and inspired. I look forward to the day when my work is displayed in a gallery like this.

Urban Fog

Urban Fog from the Canadian Wildfires

No, that’s not fog.  Smoke from the Canadian wildfires is giving New York City en eerie glow. Today is the worst air quality in recorded history in NYC. In any conditions, New York is still so photogenic.  The color version looks very dystopian (many have said today looked like a scene from Blade Runner).  The black and white version looks more dream=like to me.

Urban Canyon

Behind the Buildings, Garment District

I recently added this to the Urban Landscapes gallery.  Years ago, I worked in an office located in the Garment District.  This photo was taken on a balcony facing the back of the buildings.  Shot on 35mm film using an ultra wide lens.

Iconic View from DUMBO

Manhattan Bridge from DUMBO, Brooklyn

This view has become one of the most photographed in New York, so not having any people in the scene is pretty rare. I took this shot years ago before it became the Instagram spot it is today. Shot on Kodak Portra 400VC color film which I then converted digitally to black and white (which I feel gives it more of a dramatic feel). The color version is in my Urban Landscapes gallery.
